General Surgery
General surgery involves procedures for the abdominal organs as well as some skin and breast conditions. Our surgeons specialize in:
Breast Surgery
Breast surgery is a surgical procedure performed on the breast for a variety of reasons, including cancer treatment and prevention. Medical reasons for breast surgery include breast cancer surgery to remove tissue, lymph nodes or both; preventive surgery to remove breasts to reduce the risk of breast cancer; and non-cancerous breast lump removal.
Colonoscopy Screenings
A colonoscopy screening is a medical procedure in which a doctor uses a flexible tube with a camera, called a colonoscope, to examine the inside of the rectum and colon to look for abnormal growths, polyps, or signs of colon cancer. The physician will typically remove any suspicious tissue during the procedure.
The United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends that adults between the ages of 45 and 75 get screened for colorectal cancer. However, depending on your risk factors, you may need to start screening earlier or more often. Discuss the appropriate starting age and frequency with your doctor.
Gall Bladder Surgery
Gallbladder surgery, also known as a cholecystectomy, is a procedure to remove the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small organ located in the upper right abdomen that stores bile, a digestive fluid produced by the liver.
Common reasons gallbladder surgery is performed include removing gallstones, which can cause pain, inflammation, and blockages; treating biliary dyskinesia, a condition that prevents the gallbladder from functioning properly; and treating gallbladder cancer.
Hernia Repair
A hernia repair is a surgical procedure in which a surgeon pushes a protruding tissue (hernia) back into its proper place within the body and reinforces the weakened muscle or tissue wall that allowed the bulge to occur, often using stitches or a mesh patch to strengthen the area and prevent recurrence.
Hernias typically occur in the abdomen or groin but can also appear in the upper thigh or near the belly button.
Thyroid Surgery
Thyroid surgery, also known as a thyroidectomy, is a surgical procedure that removes part or all of the thyroid gland. The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in the neck that produces hormones that regulate metabolism and other bodily functions.
The most common reasons for thyroid surgery are thyroid cancer, swelling in the gland that causes difficulty swallowing or breathing, and hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid gland).
